Sleeping Rowan

Picture 553, originally uploaded by jeremyfloyd2000.

Okay, people, I get the message. You want me to keep posting. I thought that I was going to get off with a one day blogathon, but the shouts of the angry browsers have been heard. I will post again. Dorry should probably be the poster though. I just don't get babies for the first year or so. ;-)

A number of people have asked me whether I am over the head phobia. Yes, my son's head is not so oddly shapen anymore. Thank God. This boy is doing all the things a two-week-old should be doing--eating, sleeping, and pooping. GO BIG GUY!

Brother and Sister

Floyd Kids, originally uploaded by jeremyfloyd2000.

Audrey relished the opportunity to hold brother. Fortunately, she only dropped him once, and we were able to pick him up quickly--thank goodness for broad application of the five second rule.

Picture day

Picture day, originally uploaded by jeremyfloyd2000.

The boy is already getting dressed up for pictures. That makes the metro in me so proud.

Hallelujah

I have to admit that going to bed last night, I was a little bit freaked out. I was going over the songs (in my head) that Johhny Cash would have penned memorializing Rowan's funny looking head challenged appearance. I walked through the halls of the maternity ward and poured over all of the pictures looking for one picture of a baby with such a jacked up noggin--none to be found. I self rationalized that surely one of those babies had to look like Rowan Lewis upon delivery and that they Photoshopped those pictures or worked wonders with their little caps. I went back to the room, and the boy's head still looked like a big football on his little body. As I dozed in and out of nocturnal delirium, I comforted myself by flashing images of Hollywood's less beautiful men: Steve Buscemi, Leonard Nemoi, or Clint Howard.

Lo and behold, this morning I awoke to a head less deformed, a face less bruised, and an appearance that is proudly Floyd. Was it all a dream? Did the boy ever look so alien-like? Was this all distortion of the contact labor buzz? As we know, time is a great healer, and hallelujah this boy looks normal.

They have taken the boy for circumcision, I will post some photoshopped pictures later.

Long strange trip

Starting with some Stats:

Length/height: 20 1/2 "
Weight: 8 lb. 8 oz.
Time: 8:43 pm

Dorry started pushing around 5:30 pm. Quickly they discovered that Master Rowan's Fetal Attitude was abnormal, which means basically that instead of coming out with his chin touching his chest (standard fetal position), his head was tilted the opposite direction--sometimes known as sunny-side-up. To avoid a Cesarean Section, Dorry had her work cut out for her. This presentation required far more room for his head to pass through the birth canal, so she pushed HARD for about 3 hours (and some change). My wife showed more courage and diligence than I have ever given anything in my life, and finally after hours of HARD work this baby came into the new world.

Master Rowan's work was not light. He negotiated some difficult passes, but at the end of the day he came out (looking a little alien-ish). Within a few hours, his jarhead settled out and he looked a little more normal.

Getting very close . . .

Medical mischief

Judge Wapner said not to "take the law into your own hands," which I did and that is a loooooong story (and a boring read), but he never said anything about taking medicine into your own hands....

We conspired to "expedite" this labor process. At the behest of a colleague we adjusted the level of pitocin. We expect results, soon.

FYI: Audrey is the last man standing. She said 6:00 pm, but the 1 inch long and 2 lb calculation may be off.
